Captain Thomas H. Daily, served the Union during the Civil War, eventually serving as an inspecting officer on the staff of General Jefferson C. Davis. After the war worked as a conductor on the J.M.& I. and the E & P railroads.
Reportedly died at 7:20am on May 3, 1881 at age 39 after declining health lasting several years. At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife and two children. Burial in the Charlestown Cemetery near the grave of his six year old daughter Mary India Daily.

at the age of 19 h e joined t h e a r m y as
a private in Company D, Twenty'-
second Ind. Vols., and was gradually
promoted to t h e captaincy oi his
company. In 1862 he WJts detailed
as inspecting officer on Gen. Jcif. C.
Davis' staff, which position he occupied
unti! tlie close of t h e war. He
took part in nearly all t h e hard
fought battles in t h e ¡South aud We-^t
during the rebellion,and WHS known
as a brave, daring, fearless and efficient
officer. At t h e close of the war
he acceiited a position as conductor
on the J . M. for several years, and subsequently
h e occupied t h e same position on
t n e E. P. road, He has a host oi
friends along the line of each road agenial
manners and gentlemanly
deportment made h im friends wherec
v e r h e w e n t . His h e a l t h has g e n -
erally failed for t h e last four or five
years until death has finally come t o
his relief. He leaves a wife aud t w o
children to mourn his loss, his wife
and family have been most untiring
in their ministratmost untiring
in their ministrations to h im during
his long illness. They have the ent
i r e sympathy of this community
in their bweavemeni. The funeral
services will be conducted by Father
Snell, of t he Catholic church at Columbus
on tomorrow. The hour has
not yet been designated. His remains
will be laid by the side of his
child in the Charlestown cemetery.
