Good work on putting all this in FindaGrave! Eugene can't have been born in 1852 as he is one year old in the 1850 census, as you note, so I would guess 1849. Also he died age 35 on 22 (one source has 24) Feb 1885 in Chicago, in my opinion; if so 00057028 is the Illinois death certificate. So birth in mid-1849 (after 22 Feb) would agree with his age in the 1850 census (1) and his age as reported on his death certificate (35).

I know he married Mary E. Goldie in Chicago on 25 Feb 1875 so his death record being in Chicago makes sense.

In the 1855 NY State Census, Eugene is living in Royalton, Niagara County, with his grandparents Miles Underwood and Loraine Underwood (actually her name was Levina or Lavina I think) and his aunt Alzina Bailes Murray. He is not with Harlow and Cordelia. Levina must have been married to Alzina and Harlow's father but I do not know what his name was yet. So Miles was Eugene's step-grandfather. The NY census in 1855, for anyone born in NY state, gives the birth location. For Eugene it says he was born in Genesee County, NY, Alzina in Wyoming County (probably Pike), and Levina in Connecticut. So it appears Eugene was not born in Alden, Erie County, even though he was living there as an infant.
