A native of Forest, he came to Jackson in 1917 when he entered Millsaps College. He played varsity basketball and baseball, and as president of the athletic association he instigated the addition of football to the college sports department. In recognition of his athletic accomplishments, he was inducted into the Millsaps Sports Hall of Fame in 1969.
After graduating from Millsaps, he taught school and played professional baseball in the Cotton States League for the Vicksburg Billies and the Jackson Senators. He enjoyed a long career in real estate before retirement. He was a member of Trinity Luthern Church and a veteran of World War l.
