He was born on Sept. 18, 1914, in Superior to Byron and Ann (Kride) Hooser. Al served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a millwright at the Shell Lake Boat Factory for 33 years.
Al was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9867.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Champlin, Minn., and Dave of Shell Lake; two stepsons, Chuck and Jim Harrel, both of Spooner; 34 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Allan of Ortonville, Minn.; and one sister, Ina Hooser of Ortonville, Minn.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; one stepdaughter; three stepsons; and his friend of 27 years, Josephine LaRue.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, at Pockat Funeral Home, Shell Lake. Rev. Greg Harrell will officiate.
Burial will be in Shell Lake Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the Shell Lake Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Pockat Funeral Home.
