Johanna was born in Germany in 1815. She married Ernest A. Thalacker sometime before 1842 while still in Germany. Her first six children were born in Germany, of which two died in Andesleban, Saxony, before they came to America. Her and her husband left Saxony in Southern Germany and came to the US in about 1850. They eventually settled in the town of Lewiston, Columbia County, Wisconsin, about five or six miles NW of Portage, Wisconsin where they bought all together about 160 acres of land. HWY 16 runs through the old farm now. In 1862 they moved to the South end of Harris in Marquette County, Wisconsin in the Sunny Flats area. Johanna gave birth to three more children after coming to the US, she had nine children all together. Johanna died in her son August's home in 1884, and was buried either in or beside August's lot at the Riverside Cemetery in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
