Son of Ulrich Steffey and Anna Maria Schrimer. Ulrich was born in October of 1710 near Berne, Switzerland and died in 1760 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Anna was born August 20, 1716 in Petseldorf, Alsace.

First married to Anna Maria (surname unknown) and they had two daughters -- Catherine and Elizabeth. His second marriage was on January 10, 1813 in Wythe County, Pennsylvania to Rosena Phillippi and they had two sons -- John and David.
