Mr. Albert Martin Brotherton age 90 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Sunday, July 3, 2011, after a short illness.

Bud was born February 5th 1921 in Fort William to parents Louis and Mary Brotherton and was a life long resident of Thunder Bay.

Bud met his first wife Ruth in Brandon while enlisted in the RCAF and shortly afterwards settled in Fort William living in the Murphy Block. He was involved in the construction industry both as a foreman and eventually as a safety inspector for the Ontario Government. Bud was predeceased by Ruth in 1984 and daughter Lavilla in 1993 and remarried Georgina Wray in 1986.

Bud was a devoted father who greatly treasured his family. They enjoyed camping at Sibley in Bud's home made camper. He was very interested in sports, including baseball, bowling and hockey, was a trainer for the Fort William Redskins, and coached Pee Wee hockey. He was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Fort William Council #1447 and was a past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the 4th Degree Father Baxter Assembly and was a past Faithful Navigator. Bud was an active, long time member of St Patrick's Cathedral. He was also a member of Branch 6 Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed trying his luck at various casinos and traveled extensively with Georgina to Arizona where they formed the "Mesa Gang".

Bud is survived by children Mary Louise (Gary), Phillip (Virginia), Cathy (Jim), Ruth (Larry), Sharon (Kent), Elaine (Jim) and Joe from his first marriage. He is also survived by his spouse Georgina and her children Allison (Don), Gail (Mitch), David (Colleen), Alan (Debbie), Mark (Denise) and Scott (Marlin). Bud is survived by 29 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, brother John (Lynn) and sisters Gert and Sister Anne.

Bud and Georgina would have celebrated their 25th anniversary in October.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Cathedral celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, privately for the family. Prayers will be offered July 5, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Patrick's Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Arthritis Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or the George Jeffrey Children's Centre Foundation.

A tree will be planted in memory of Albert Brotherton in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 10, 2012.
