Josiah Newton was the 7th. son of Moses and Joanna (Larkin) Newton.

He married 1st. Elizabeth Woods in 1716 in Marlborough, Middlesex Co., Mass. and 2nd. Ruhamah Maynard, Dec. 8, 1730 in Westborough, Worcester Co., Mass.

Josiah and Elizabeth had 7 children and with Ruhamah had 10 children.

Josiah was a Tanner by trade and one of the first inhabitants of Westborough. He was a Selectman in 1723 and served on and off for many years. Also served as the town treasurer in 1735, '36, '48, '50, '52, and '53.

The Rev. Ebenezer Parkman was the first Minister of the town and Josiah Newton was the moderator of that meeting on Oct. 28, 1724 to "call a minister."

Josiah became a Deacon on June 8, 1738.
