COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Quintin Roosevelt Rose, 86, of Sparta, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, at Dodson Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Dodson Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Friday, June 27, from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church.
Mr. Rose died Thursday, June 26, 2008, in NHC Healthcare of Sparta.
He was born May 22, 1922, in Gatliff, Ky., to the late Lee and Laura Bunch Rose.
He began working as a coal miner in his teenage years. Mr. Rose later served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, helping to preserve natural resources across the country. He then joined the military, serving in both the Army and Air Force. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for his service in World War II.
After the war, he met his wife, Thelma Smith (whom he married March 22, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio). Together, they put their faith and trust in Jesus and worked in ministry for the rest of his life. He was ordained at Dodson Branch Missionary Baptist Church in 1952, where he served as pastor for a number of years. His ministry spanned more than 61 years as pastor of several churches in Ohio and Tennessee. Mr. Rose was a man full of faith who lived his life for Jesus, Thelma, family and the salvation of lost
people.
His family includes his wife, Thelma Smith Rose of Sparta; two daughters, Carol Simcox and BrendaVinson; two sonsinlaw,
Ron Simcox and Roger Vinson; five grandchildren, Nikki Reynolds and husband Brad, Jason Lewis and wife Melinda, Amber Griffin and husband Knute, Chris Lewis and Ashley Vinson; and eight precious greatgrandchildren.
