A native of Williamson Co, Tenn and a graduate of Spring Hill Academy, he joined the 3rd Tenn Inf (Clack's) in May 1861. Was captured at Fort Donelson, and exchanged in Sept 1862. Captured again at McKernan's Island near Muscle Shoals, Ala in May 1864. His first POW stint was at Camp Douglas, Ill, and the second was at Rock Island. He founded Buford Bros. Wholesale Hardware, and his son Capt Eddie Buford, Jr., won the DSC in the air war over France in 1917-18.
