Melba Alford was born to E. H. and Verna Alford in Arkansas in 1920. She was a towheaded little mischief maker as a child and grew into a lovely teen. During WWII she worked in an ammunition plant in Little Rock, AR measuring gun powder for hand grenades and bombs. A photo of her badge is attached to this memorial. After WWII, she married returning soldier Basil C. Black in 1946. Together they raised 3 children: identical twin sons Dennis and Donald Black and daughter Mary Lynn Black. Melba was a homemaker for the remainder of her life and loved her kids immensely. She made sure her kids went to church, got to school on time and learned to be kind like her. She was fond of sweets (especially doughnuts and Hershey Kisses), she LOVED coffee and she crocheted some beautiful afghans that her family still uses. At the age of 93, she went home to be with our Lord after several years of having dementia. She is loved and missed and at this time her earthbound family knows she is happy to be with Jesus, is drinking Heavenly coffee and talking to her heart's content with her family and friends in heaven.
