Louis Michael Byng Jr., 80, Abrams, passed way peacefully at home June 24, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. He was born February 25, 1932 to Louis and Hazel (Dredge) Byng Sr. On August 19, 1967 he married Ardis Dumke at the Abrams United Methodist Church. Mike lived in Abrams all is life except for when he served in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter jet engine mechanic. He was stationed in Germany, Tripoli, Africa, and several other bases in the United States. He also earned several medals while in the service, the Occupation Medal (Germany), the National Defense Service Medal, ad the Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the service Mike worked with his father at the Byng Mobil Service Station in Abrams for twenty five years until it closed. After that he worked at two local sawmills and part time for Dean Foods in Green Bay, WI. Mike was an avid reader and collector of western of novels. He liked watching all sports especially the Green Bay Packers of which he never missed a game. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He liked listening to polka music, especially German hour every Sunday. He was also a member of the Abrams American Legion Post #523. Mike is survived by his wife, a daughter, two nephews, two nieces, and his mother. He was preceded in death by his father Louis Byng Sr. and his sister and her husband Connie (Roger) Barber. Private funeral services were held. Military Rites were performed by the Abrams and Oconto American Legion. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, assisted the family.
