Born in Upshur County, West Virginia, Charles Homer Vincent was one of seven children born to Amos B. Vincent and Marietta Crites Vincent. The family moved to Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and it was there that he met Anna Belle Springer (daughter of Calvin Springer and Drusilla Hood Nesmith Springer). They married on 19 April 1882, and by 1888 Charles and Anna Belle were living in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California where their daughter, Florence Helen Vincent McDonald, was born on 1 January 1891.
