Emery was the 2nd-great-grandson of Revolutionary War Patriot Leonard Emmert (1745-1804), and 3rd-great-grandson of Revolutionary War Patriot Johann Jorg Friedrich "George" Emmert (1718–1796). Leonard Emmert was also the Brethren church's beloved "Old Pathfinder," who was instrumental in the church's growth in the 1800s in Maryland, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
Emery Mckee married Anna "Annie" Catherine Garling in Washington County, Maryland, on December 22, 1884, when he was 24 years old. Annie was 21. They would have just one child: Rosa Mae McKee born in 1885.
Annie passed away on June 23, 1886, at the age of 22.
Emery next married Ida May Clopper in 1892. They had three children:
Emmert Fahrney McKee in 1896; Maud Edna McKee in 1897; and Mary May McKee in 1905.
In about 1893, Emery united with his family's Brethren church. (Adult baptism is the church's way.) For the last 30 years of his life he served as a church deacon.
Emery died on March 12, 1933, in Paramount near Hagerstown, Maryland, when he was 72 years old. He was buried in the Long Meadow Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Hagerstown.
