Son of Lillie Herring Turbeville and stepson of James Dawson Turbeville.

From The State, February 22, 1947, Page 10:

"Herring Services Sunday

Bishopville, Feb. 21 - (Special) - Funeral services for Lonnie E. Herring, 40, who died yesterday at Tuomey hospital at Sumter from pistol wounds accidentally received earlier in the day, will be held 2:30 Sunday afternoon from Bethlehem church in Bishopville. Interment will follow in Magnolia cemetery at Latta.

Mr. Herring is survived by widow, Mrs. Lyl Woodward Herring, formerly of Latta; his mother, Mrs. Lillie Turbeville of Florence; two half sisters, Miss Geneva Turbeville of Florence and Mrs. Hazel Jordan of Bishopville; four half brothers, W. M., W. W., And R. H. Huntsville of Florence and J. R. Turbeville, US army, overseas and one uncle, John Herring of Latta."
