John was born to William E and Edith Jane Grey Mooney in Colora, Cecil CO, Maryland. John was an engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad for 42 years. He married Florence Bauroth in 1915 and they had two children who survived to adulthood. John and Florence moved to California in their retirement years where they both died. After the death of Florence, John married his sister-in-law who was a widow, Anna Bauroth. She preceded him in death.
