Mrs. Gene A. Cordle Sr., 66, MacGrady Road, Rome Rte. 1, died Sunday afternoon following a brief illness.

Mrs. Cordle was born Aug. 24, 1909, Murray County, daughter of the late Robert Stevens Lackey and Dora Tucker Lackey. She had resided in Floyd County all her life and was a member of North Rome Church of God and a member of Sunday School Class 5.

Mrs. Cordle, the former Exie Lou Lackey, was married to Gene A. Cordle Sr., May 8, 1926.

Survivors beside Mr. Cordle include a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Dora Ann) Rogers, Rome: five sons, Gene A. Cordle Jr., Rome, Bill Cordle, Dickson, Tenn., Bob Cordle, Dallas, Harold Cordle, Rome, and Charles Cordle, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Dixie Bennett and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Winkler, both of Rome; 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at North Rome Church of God with Rev. Houston Odom officiating. Interment will be in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The body will be carried to the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday to lie in state until the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends at Jennings Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. At other hours, they will be at the residence on McGrady Road.

Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

Jennings Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
