  Edward Best, 84, of Collinsville died at 8:05 a.m. today in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville.
  He was the father of Mrs. Raymond (Alberta) Neuenschwander of Edwardsville.
  Mr. Best was born April 2, 1885, in Logan County, the son of the late Albert and Julia Blackford Best. He was a resident of Collinsville most of his life and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Collinsville.
  He was a retired engineer, formerly employed by the Collinsville Water Works.
  Besides Mrs. Neuenschwander, Mr. Best is survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia Hartmann Best, to whom he was married June 6, 1910.
  Also surviving are two sons, Emmett Best of St. Charles, Ill., and Melvin Best, Collinsville; two other daughters, Mrs. Roy (Edna) Wallace and Mrs. Robert (Irma) Ittig, both of Collinsville, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
  Friends may call at the Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main St., Collinsville, from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday.
  Services will be held in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Collinsville, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Rev. John Koch officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Pleasant Ridge.
