Arthur T. Foslien was born on December 24, 1896, the son of Alfred K. and Emma (Larson) Foslien. He was baptized and confirmed at Chippewa Lutheran Church of Brandon. He attended school at Garfield District No. 8, Douglas County Common School and graduated form the University of Minnesota Agriculture School of St. Paul. On January 4, 1933, he was united in marriage to Thelma Knutson in Sisseton, South Dakota. After their marriage they lived in the Garfield area where Art ran a threshing crew and clover hulling crew. Mr. Foslien was an avid Twins fan and a member of the Land O' Lakes Community Band.
Art died on Sunday, January 27, 1991, at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home where he has been a resident for the past few years. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Huwe of Leaf Valley; Mrs. Clarence (Naomi) Close of Brainerd; Mrs. Joseph (Bernice) Johnson of Alexandria; one brother, Orrin Foslien of Garfield and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma in December of 1989, his parents, four sisters, Evelyn, Emma, Cora and Florence; and four brothers, Fred, Clarence, Arnold and Henry.
Funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 30, 1991, 1:30 p.m. at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Garfield, Minnesota, with Reverend David Gran officiating. Pallbearers were James McCabe, David Dittberner, Floyd Froemming, Floyd Foslien, Joe C. Johnson and James Hanson. Interment was at East Moe Lutheran Cemetery, Garfield, Minnesota. Services were directed by Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home.
