Funeral services for Alfred Foslien were held Wed., Oct. 28, 1959, at 1:00 p.m., from the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, and, at 2:00 p.m. from the East Moe Lutheran church of Garfield. Rev. Milton Aarsvold of Brandon officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Gilbert Evanson, theodore Winkjer, George Gilbertson, Simon Wedin, Carl J. Newhouse and Albert Dittberner. Pallbearers were Orrin Foslien, Fred Foslien, Art Foslien, Arnold Foslien, Joe C. Johnson and Louis Huwe. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Alfred Knute Foslien was born in Jefferson Prairie township, Wisconsin, near Beloit on Sept. 19, 1875. When he was two years of age, he came with his parents, Fingal and Maria Foslien, to Moe township. Alfred made his home on the same farm in Moe township until 1940 when he came to Alexandria where he has resided for the past nineteen years. He was united in marriage to Emma Larson and six children were born to this union. After the death of his first wife, Alfred was united in marriage to Johanna Nessgaard. Five children were born. His second wife, Johanna, passed away at an early age and on October 12, 1915, he was united in marriage to O'Lina Thompson. Two children, Bernice and Orrin, were born to this union. Alfred was greatly interested in community and divic affairs, and, much of his life was devoted to serving public and farm organizations. He was always interested in music and in early years, he organized and directed many bands and only recently retired from being a soloist in the Runic Male Chorus. He also maintained an active interest in athletic events since his youth. He passed away at his home in Alexandria on Saturday evening, October 24, at the age of 84 years, 1 months, and 5 days. He is survived by his wife, O'Lina Foslien, and nine children. One daughter, (Emma) Mrs. Arthur Dittberner, passed away Monday morning following her father's death on Saturday. Surviving are: Fred J. of Alexandria; Arthur of Garfield; Mrs. Evelyn Froemming of Alexandria; Mrs. Cora Goldberg, of Minneapolis; (Mildred), Mrs. Louis Huwe of Leaf Valley; Arnold of Minneapolis; (Naomi), Mrs. Clarence Close of Green Isle; (Bernice), Mrs. Joe C. Johnson, of Alexandria and Orrin, of Moe township. Also surviving are 39 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren, and one sister, (Julia) Mrs. Frank Foslien. He was preceded in death by his first two wives; two sons, Clarence and Henry; one daughter (Florence) Mrs. Harold Hanson; one brother, Clarence; two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
