Richard (Dick) H. Kirchmann, 84 years, of Fremont died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont, Nebraska. He was born January 25, 1930 in Valley, Nebraska to Henry D. and Dora (Thomsen) Kirchmann. He was the 5th of 6 boys.

He attended school in Valley until his father moved to Fremont after the death of his mother when he was 7 years old. He then attended Fremont Public Schools, graduating from Fremont Senior High School. He was an avid participant of Golden Gloves Boxing having held the title of Feather Weight Champion. Around the ring he was known as “Whitey” because of his hair color.

Richard married Margaret M. Riley on February 10, 1951 at Lincoln, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2012. He was employed mostly in sales work the last being Kitty Clover from which he retired in January of 1990. He also had held a realtors license in Fremont. On December 20, 1986, Richard and his son-in-law Mike opened a sports card shop they called “Platte Valley Sports”. Richard bought out Mike’s interest and continued to operate it until 1992, making many friends.

He had a love for animals, from raising and showing “Checkered Giant” rabbits and winning many ribbons and trophies, to raising more hogs on his acreage than the average farmer; still holding his regular sales job.

He and his wife owned a second property just outside of Branson, Missouri on Lake Taneycomo where he loved to fish no matter what the weather. When there was snow on the ground and on the dock he would take the broom, sweep off the snow, pull out his chair and throw out his fishing line. He always looked forward to entertaining his family and friends with fishing and rides on his pontoon. His greatest joy was to be doing as much as possible with his family. He attended as many activities of the grandchildren and great grandchildren from music, plays and sports as he possibly could. He took great pride in keeping a beautiful yard and gorgeous flowers.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Fremont where he had served as a Deacon and an usher, plus several different committees. He was also a member of Teamsters #554 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #200.

He is survived by son, Dale R. and wife, Sabine Kirchmann of Muehlhausen, Germany; daughters, Judy K. and husband, Michael Semrad, Sr. of Fremont and Janet M. and husband, Ray Blomstedt of Omaha, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Francis and wife, Helen Kirchmann of Valley; step sister, Willa Mae Alberts of Dassel, Minnesota; sisters-in-law Mildred Kirchmann of Fremont and Janet Kirchmann of Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; four brothers and a step sister.
