Mark L. Banker, 71, entered into God's eternal care at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center. Born March 21, 1933, in Hanover, he was the son of the late Walter H. and Ida M. (Stahle) Bankert.
Mark was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, and the Eagle Fire Company and Fire Police of Hanover. He was employed by the South Western School District for 30 years where he was in charge of the groundskeeping. Through these years Mr. Bankert developed a wonderful reputation with the students and teachers of the school district. It was during this time that he became known as the 'Jolly Green Giant'.
Mark is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Richard, Jack, Fred, Walter, Carroll, and Robert Bankert; and two sisters, Grace Stevens and Betty Gouker.
Funeral services will be held at 1 1 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Hanover Fire Department will provide Fireman Honors. Serving as casketbearers will be members of the Eagle Fire Company, Hanover.
