W. A. King who has been a resident of Hawarden for nearly thirty years, died at the state hospital at Cherokee Sunday afternoon. The deceased had been in poor health for the past years or more and about three weeks ago his mind failed him and he was taken to "the hospital for treatment The body was brought to Hawarden Tuesday and the funeral was held at the Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon, Rev. V. A Weir preaching the funeral sermon.

Masonic fraternity, of which order Mr. King had long been a member, had charge of the funeral services at Grace Hill cemetery. William Allen King was born Dec. 1, 1859, in Olmstead county, Minn. When still a child he moved with his parents to Andrew, Iowa, where he resided until he was 23 years of age, when he located in Hawarden which has been his home since that time. He was one of the first principals of the Hawarden public schools, which position he held for several years. He was justice of the peace for several terms and took active part in political matters in the county. He was also engaged in business here for a long time and was quite successful in a financial way.

He was married Oct 13, 1908, to Mrs. Rosa Walker of this place. He leaves a wife and two sons, Marinus Robert and Matthew E., besides his aged parents, a sister and four brothers to mourn his death. His mother and sister, Mrs. M. King and Mrs. D. M. Davis of Maquoketa, and a brother, Frank S. King of Davenport, were here to attend the funeral.
