Edna was a 3rd generation enrolled Rosebud Sioux Tribal member from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. A descendant of John B. and Mary Peneaux Didier, her great grandmother, Maggie Didier Howard Walters was a midwife who died in 1891, caught in a blizzard trying to help a new life enter the world. Edna's grandmother, Jennie Howard Charbonneau was a tribal member sent to the U.S. Federal Industrial Indian School in Genoa, Nebraska. Jennie's husband was Alexis Merril Charbonneau (Maza Kaga – Iron Worker) who ranched in Todd County, South Dakota. Post retirement years found Edna traveling the U.S., RV style, enjoying that to the fullest.
On August 5, 1945, Edna Barnett married Joseph Schiedel. He died in 1987. From this union a daughter, Joann was born. On May 4, 1949, Edna Schiedel married John A. Frickey. He died in 1998. They were blessed with two children, Kenneth and Sharon. On December 24, 1973, Edna Frickey married William Knoll. He died in 1988. On October 17, 1991, Edna Knoll married Bruce J. Locke. He is living in Pahrump, NV.
Edna Louise Locke was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Pauline Marie Barnett in 1992; two half brothers, William Harold (Billy) Barnett, who died on the Batann Death March in 1942, Wayne Arthur Barnett, a WWII combat veteran who died in 2008; and a granddaughter, Michele D. Thomas Bredemeier who died in 1996.
Edna is survived by: a son, Kenneth L. Frickey Sr. (and his wife, Laura Hull Frickey) of Kentucky; two daughters, Joann Schiedel Frickey Thomas of Strasburg, CO, and Sharon Frickey Lee (and her husband, Frank Lee) of Rifle, CO; four grandchildren, Michael Thomas (and his wife, Robin), Kenneth L. Frickey Jr. (and his wife Jeanna), Christopher J. Lee, Ryan A. Lee; one great grandson, two great granddaughters, and a great granddaughter, soon to be born.
A graveside service will take place at Valentine's Mt. Hope Cemetery, Valentine, Nebraska on July 20th, 2014.
