David Cox, Jr., was born in the part of Montgomery County, VA, that became Wythe County in 1790, and Grayson County in 1799.
His family lived on the New River a few miles from the North Carolina state line.
David Cox, Jr. later moved across the state line into Ashe (later Alleghany) County, NC, and settled on Moccasin Creek and the Little River near the Cheek family.
According to The Cox Family in America (1912) by Henry Miller Cox, p.52, David Cox married a woman with the last name of REEVES.
