Mrs. Samuel E. Smith, 83 years old, a resident of Marceline since 1888, died Friday at her home here. Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. W. J. Imes. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Judith Eliza Milstead, daughter of Campbell and Nancissus Milstead, was born December 6, 1857, near Richmond, Ray County, Missouri. Her early life was spent on a farm in Ray County and later the family moved to Daviess County where she grew to womanhood. They lived near Gallatin until 1888. In April of that year Mrs. Smith came to Marceline and was employed in construction work when the Santa Fe was being built through here. Nine months later, Mrs. Smith and children joined him here and established one of Marceline's pioneer homes.
