Pvt. Joseph William Elder, Company A, Camp Watts, Notasulga, Alabama. Elder entered the military in 1862. He had a previous injury which led to a fractured and shortened bone; that injury led him to be unfit for field service. He was, however, able to serve at Camp Watts' Camp of Instruction in a less strenuous manner. He worked as a hospital nurse and helped with a forage wagon for three years. Elder survived the war, died in 1913, and is buried in Union, Clay County, Alabama.
