Leora Rebecca Joyner was born on March 27, 1891, in Effingham County, Georgia, a daughter of William Alfred Joyner (1850-1929) and Sarah Elizabeth (Wyles) Joyner (1851-1932). She is the sister of John Macklin Joyner (1880-1887); Daisy L (Joyner) Douglas (1881-1908); Minnie Isabel (Joyner) Abbott Seckinger Clark (1884-1973); Addie Joyner (1886-1906) and Tencher Lavinia (Joyner) Goodhall (1888-1979) and half sister of Clifford L Joyner (1877-1957); Lavinia Joyner; Rosanna Joyner and William Alfred Joyner.

In 1907, Leora, age 15, married her first husband, Robert E Bennett (1884-1913). They had a son, Robert William Bennett (1908-1991).

In 1910, the family of Edward R Eady age 66, included his wife, Susan L (Otto) Eady age 48, his two stepsons, Louis Bennett age 24, and Robert E Bennett age 27, with his wife, Leora R (Joyner) Bennett age 19 and their son, Robert W Bennett age 1. They were all born in Georgia. In 1913, Leora's husband, Robert E Bennett, died.

Leora married Charles Howard Ellison. In 1920, the family of Charlie Ellison age 23, included his wife, Leora (Joyner Bennett) Ellison age 26, and her son, Robert W Bennett age 11, in Chatham County, GA.

In 1930, the family of Charles H Ellison age 33, included his wife, Leora Ellison age 35, and her son, Robert Bennett age 21, living in Savannah, Chatham County, GA.

Her son, Bob Bennett, was in the merchant marines living in California. Also, Leora Ellison moved to California, perhaps to be near her son. Later in her life, she may have had special friendship with Alonzo or Joseph Ryals.

On May 3, 1959, Leora R (Joyner) Bennett Ellison, age 68, died in San Francisco, California. It is unknown where she is buried.

7-16-2010, Edgar commented to family researcher, Jenene Cannon, about Leora (his great aunt) when she was married to Charles Ellison, "...she had a piano in her home and she would play and sing".

6-6-2011 comment from relative Sandra Correia: "I spoke with my mother...she told me something interesting...Bob's father, was also named Robert...he died about the time Bob was born! Leora married Charlie Ellison when Bob was just a baby. My mom said she remembers Charlie Ellison when she was very little (circa 1932). And she said he had a car with a rumble seat and she used to ride in it..lol... She said Bob was very handsome and looked just like his mom Leora... and he and my Grandmother Elma (Abbott Ulmer) and her cousin Maude (Goodhall Mutter) were very close....So, there it is, Bob was raised by his stepfather Charlie Ellison."
