John W. Daniels ws the founder of the Daniels Linseed Company of which today is known as the Archer Dainels Midland Company. Buried in families private mausoleum.

John W. Daniels 74 chairman of the board and one of the founders of the Archer-Daniels Midland Co. of Minneapolis died early Monday at the Miller hospital in St Paul after a months illness. He was born Feb. 23,1857 at Piqua Ohio and educated in public schools of the day.

He engaged in the linseed business when 21 and he started work in a small linseed plant at Piqua and then went to Buffalo as a employe of the American Linseed Co. He spent a year at Cleveland as manager of the linseed oil department of a large paint co.

In 1902 he came to Minneapolis to carry on his business nearer the source of flax production. He first formed the Daniels Linseed Co. and shortly after joined with Shreve M. Archer Sr. in organizing the Archer-Daniels co. This concern some 8 years ago acquired the Midland Linseed Products Co of Minneapolis and became the Archer-Daniels Co today the largest linseed manufacturer in the country.

In addition to his prominence in business he was known as a collector of paintings and a few years ago he gave a portrait to Sir Joshus Reynolds to the Minneapolis Society of fine arts.

He lived at White Bear Lake but also maintained a residence at 11 Kenwood parkway, St.Paul. He is survived by Mrs. Daniels and one son,Thomas L. Daniels.

A memorial service for him will be conducted Tuesday at Dellwood,White Bear Lake and burial will take place at Piqua,his birth place.
