JOHN RIGGS MEADE

Dies February 25
Rites Friday For
Oil Springs Man

John Riggs Meade, 67, died at 4:30 a.m. at the home of his
daughter, Mrs Fanny Belle Blanton, at Oil Springs, Ky.

Mr. Meade was a well-known resident of the county, although he had
been an invalid for the past thirty years. He was an uncle of
Attorney Fred Meade formerly of this city. His wife, Kala Meade,
preceded him in death on December 5, 1947.

He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Jenny Lynn Nickell,
Kenova, W. Va., Mrs Mamie Blanton, and Frank Meade all of Oil
Springs, Ky., Mrs. Mary Castle of this city, and Mrs. Ruth Kirkly,
Baltimore, Maryland. Surviving also are a brother, Lindsey, of
Sitka, 22 grand children, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Oil Springs Methodist Church
at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 27.

Burial will be beside his wife in the Litteral cemetery.

OBITUARY

John Riggs Meade was born July 13, 1879, died February 25, 1948,
age 68 years, 7 months, and 12 days. He was the son of Robert A.
and Katherine Litteral Meade, who preceded him in death many years
ago.

Early in life he was converted and become a member of the
Christian Church and remained a faithful member until his death.
He was united in marriage to Kala Litteral, and to this union was
born eight children, seven daughters and one son. They are: Mrs.
Roy Nickell, Kenova, W. Va., Mrs. Grover Blanton, Mrs. Ozzie Webb,
Mrs. Raymond Blanton, and Frank Meade all of Oil Springs, Mrs.
Cecil Kirkley, Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Hershell Castle of
Paintsville, Ky. One daughter, Mrs. Malva Litteral, died in 1933.

He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Mahan, Oil
Springs, and Mrs. Fred Williams, of Dayton, Ohio, and one brother,
L. L. Meade, of Sitka, Ky. He leaves a host of friends and
relatives to mourn his loss.
