He was born and raised in Decatur, Ala. Bill was a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, having served during World War II in the Signal Corp. Following his discharge, he moved to Savannah in 1946, where he spent most of his career as an automobile salesman. At the time of his retirement, Bill was with Backus Cadillac-Pontiac, where he received many awards as Top Salesman. He was a faithful member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon as well as church treasurer for many years.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Gussie G. Arban of Savannah; three daughters, Billye (Kennon) Harris, Sherrie (Denney) Harris, all of Savannah, and Beverly (Lee) Futch of Statesboro; four stepchildren, Vernon (Wynne) Greene, Dexter Greene, Linda (Gean) Bridgman and Judy (Mike) Duncan; six grandchildren, Angie Pelham, Eddie Dukes, Toni Hendley, Brian Futch, Jason Futch and Chris Harris;10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three brothers, Charley, J.C. and Hollis Arban; two sisters, Susie Batson and MaryAnn Muir; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service: 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home with the Revs. Donnie Burke, Billy Hanna and Steve Hughes officiating. Burial: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to First Free Will Baptist Church, 5210 Skidaway Road, Savannah, Ga. 31404.
