Anthony Smith Gann was the youngest child of Samuel Gann and Sarah White Gann.

Smith married Sarah Minerva White in 1848 and four children were born into this marriage. Eliza Jane Gann Ritchey, Sarah Matilda Gann Wyatt, Bayless Pinkney "Pink" Gann, and Emily Gann.
Smith died of measles complication walking in the rain while returning home from his unit during the Civil war, and is buried in an unmarked grave on the family farm. He was supposedly 6 feet tall dark complected.
