A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, at St. Francis Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. There will be Masonic Rites at the graveside.
Ray was born on December 12, 1926, in Middleton, to the late Clafton Aaron and Florence Gibbs Ballance. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Gate City Lodge #694. He was also a member of the Sportsman's Wildlife Club and a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church. For many years, he worked at Western Electric until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Whidbee and a brother, Milburn Ballance and his wife, Virginia.
Ray leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Ruby Deyton Ballance of the home; son, Gary R. Ballance and wife, Jo Ann of Greensboro; daughter, Diana B. Nelson and husband, Chris of Walkertown; brother, Vernon Ballance and wife, Betty of Engelhard; sister-in-law, Lillian Ward of Greensboro and one grandchild, Matthew Ballance of Greensboro.
The Ballance family will be receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight at Hanes Lineberry, North Elm Chapel.
