BLUEFIELD - Lurinda Virginia Whittaker Walters, 87, of Bluefield, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Kissito Healthcare of Bland County in Bastian, VA. she was born February 8, 1927 at Tralee. She was the daughter of the late Giles C. Whittaker and Minnie Lee Snider Whittaker. Jenny has a colorful work record, beginning as a welder/tacker for Dravo Corporation of Wilmington, DE during World War II, where in April and May of 1944, she became a pin-up girl for the South Yard, receiving many letters and cards from service men stationed all over the world. Upon returning to Princeton, she married Billie Walters in 1946. Together they were owner/operators of Walters Welding Shops in Princeton, later working at Maidenform, as a photo technician at the Princeton Times newspaper, selling real estate, owner/operator of Jenny's Restaurant on Thorn Street, and she had worked at the Elks Club and Moose Lodge. Jenny retired from North American Rockwell International, Missile System Division, in Duluth, GA. Jenny's dream was to be a writer. She tried her hand at song writing which resulted in published sheet music of songs like "Our Special Rendevous" and Familiar Cafe." She also wrote a children's story: "Elmer the Pet Snake." Jenny was a real diverse gal indeed.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Bill, Bob and Dewey Whittaker and Mary Opal Petry; also a son Jeffrey Walters and a son-in-law, Joseph Daugherty. She is survived by her children: Billie Kline and husband Gayle, David Walters, Audrey Rosenswike, and Sherri Barnes; special grandson, B.J. Walters and wife Nicole; also 8 other grandchildren: Nicole Crawford, Durra and David Walters, Krystal Oetker, Tiffany Walters, Paul, Sean and Douglas Daugherty; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. A private graveside service was held, and burial was in the Athens Cemetery in Athens.
