Mrs. White, wife of Rev. George White, died very suddenly at the family home near Dew Saturday afternoon about 4 o’clock. She was apparently in the best of health and had been sitting in the room with members of the family chatting, when it was suggested that preparation be made for the usual Sunday observance, so the several members of the family went about their general Saturday afternoon tasks, Mrs. White remarking that she would gather turnips for the Sunday dinner. She walked to the garden and began her work, when she was seized with a violent fit of coughing. She called for someone to come to her, and she was quickly carried to the house and the family physician summoned, but before he could reach her she was dead. Burial was at the Compton graveyard Sunday and was largely attended. Mrs. White was one of our best loved women, truly “a mother of Israel” and her death is deeply regretted. Her bereft husband and children have a host of friends who grieve with them. Courtesy of Yale St Clair
