Reverend E.P. Ramsey, Jr.

Reverend E.P. Ramsey, Jr., age 75 of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Reverend Ramsey was born December 25, 1929 in Lufkin and had resided in Crockett since 1961.
Reverend Ramsey was called to the ministry at age 15 and preached his first sermon in 1945. After graduating from Diboll High School in 1947, he received his BA from East Texas Baptist College 1951 and his Master of Religious Studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1954.
Reverend Ramsey pastored seven churches including Mt. Zion Baptist-Lufkin in 1949, Fairplay Baptist-Beckville in 1951, First Baptist-Clayton in 1952, Reliance Baptist-Garrison in 1956, First Baptist-Kountze in 1959, and First Baptist-Crockett from February 14, 1961 to February 14, 1991. Reverend Ramsey also served as interim pastor of Porter Springs Baptist in 1991, Weches Baptist Church in 1992 and Westside Baptist in 1995.
Reverend Ramsey served as trustee of East Texas Baptist College for over 20 years. After his retirement, Reverend Ramsey served as Pastor Emeritus at the First Baptist Church and was a member and teacher of the A.S. Lee Sunday School Class and was referred to in a book on Houston County History as Crockett's Pastor.
Reverend Ramsey was an active member and leader of the Crockett Noon Lion's Club and was a licensed funeral director. Reverend Ramsey enjoyed Crockett High School sports and even announced a few baseball games and prayed before many events, and was an extraordinary husband, father, pastor and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ethel Lee Standley Ramsey, of Crockett; daughter Deborah Ramsey Williams and husband Van, of San Antonio; sons Dr. E. Perry Ramsey III, of Crockett and Tom S. Ramsey and wife Marsha Kilman Ramsey, of Houston; nine grandchildren Tommy Ramsey, Rob Ramsey, Ruth Ramsey Cagle and husband Steve, Elizabeth Carroll Dawson and husband Peter, Mary Carroll, Adam Ramsey, Claire Ramsey, Webb Williams and Ty Williams; host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Sharmon Adams Ramsey.
Funeral Services for Reverend E.P. Ramsey, Jr, were held Saturday, October 29, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keeney Dickenson officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or charity of choice.
