The Oklahoman, Sunday, Dec 21, 1975, extract: The lifetime contributions of Frederick Douglass Moon, the Oklahoma City educator, who died Tuesday, received tribute from about 400 people who attended his funeral Saturday morning. Gov. David Boren was one of the many who came to Tabernacle Baptist Church to praise Moon's service as a teacher, principal and school board member.
Moon was born near Fallis, one of nine children. He is survived by his wife, Leeoshia Moon; daughter, Mrs Freddye Lee Smith, Chicago; sister, Miss Irene Moon, Guthrie; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Following the service, Moon was buried in Trice Hill Cemetery.
The Oklahoman, Wed, Dec 17, 1975, extract: He finished the 8th grade in Lincoln Co schools, went to high school at Langston University, graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Langston, received his Masters Degree from Chicago University. He was honored with a Doctors Degree in Humanities from Langston University. He was the first black president of the Oklahoma City Board of Education in 1974.
He was a member of the National Educators Association, American Association of School Administrators, American Teachers Association, National Department of Secondary Principals, and the Urban Renewal Authority. He served as past president of the Langston University Alumni Association, and the Oklahoma Association of Negro Teachers.
