Abe Youssef Kahl (February 2, 1934-March 29, 2014) Our beloved Abe Kahl passed away at 80 years of age on Saturday, March 29, 2014 in his home in Gresham, Oregon. He was surrounded by his family until the end.

Abe Kahl was born and raised in Amar, Syria by Youssef and Lamia Kahl. His siblings are Zaki, Sammy, Scandra, Shawki, Mona, Mary, Edward, and Nadia. Abe served in the Syrian Army in the late 50's, worked in Kuwait for one year, and moved to the U.S. in 1962. He married Nadia Al-Khal in 1968 and lived in Portland and later Gresham, Oregon.

Abe worked in a family business and then as a contractor for many years. Upon retirement, Abe fulfilled his dream of returning to Syria to build a home where he resided for the last 15 years of his life.

Abe Kahl is survived by his wife: Nadia, his three children: Joseph A. Kahl, James Kahl, and Elaine Atiyeh, their spouses: Sue, Rana, and Victor, and seven grandchildren: Nicole, Zaki J., Victoria, James, Abraham, Alexander, and Vivian.

Services will be held at St. George Orthodox Church on Thursday, April 3, 2014. The viewing is at 10:00 am followed by the church service at 11:00. The mercy meal will take place in the church hall at 12:00 pm followed by the burial at Riverview Cemetery.
