He was born Dec 13, 1911 in Smithfield, the son of Andrew E. and Lula (Howarter) Black and he married Reva Coakly on June 26, 1937.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Karen Schlabach of Glen Ellyn and Mrs. Diana Williamson of Henry; four grandchildren and two sisters.
He retired in 1974 from United Electric Coal Co as a machine operator. He was a member of Cuba United Methodist Church, Cuba Masonic Lodge of which he was a past master, Fulton Co Farm Bureau and United Mine Workers of America.
Services were held July 15 at Cuba United Methodist Church with burial in Cuba Cemetery.
