Betty L. (Ray) Barnhizer, 87, passed away Friday April 11, 2014 in Franklin.

She was a resident of Franklin.

Betty was born Feb. 27, 1927 in Scottsburg to Altha and Helen (Phillips) Ray.

She was married to Stanley Barnhizer, they were married 55 years. He preceded her in death in 2001.

Betty was employed for the City of Franklin as a bookkeeper for many years and worked for Johnson County in the accounting department. She also owned and operated Betty's Restaurant at the corner of Water and Jefferson streets in Franklin for many years.

She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Franklin and the Community Congregational Church of Franklin. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and going to the gambling boats. Betty also enjoyed game shows, her cat, Fluffy and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two children, Pamela ( Art ) Barnhizer-Briggs and Michael ( Cheri ) Barnhizer both of Franklin, a sister, Mary Comer of Scottsburg, four grandchildren, Stacy (Joe) Heuchan, Amy (John) Ashcraft, Alysha (Scott) Sherry and Jason (Carrie) Barnhizer and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Russell Ray .

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday April 15. 2014 at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel, 197 E. Jefferson St. with visitation from noon until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Hurricane Cemetery outside of Franklin.
