Gayle Eldean Schoen, Sr., 74, of Summerville, husband of Ann Snowden Schoen, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, in Trident Medical Center.
Mr. Schoen was born oAugust 6, 1939, in Diller, Nebraska, a son of the late Herman Henry Schoen and Catherine Sophia (Fanders) Schoen.
He graduated from Peru State College in Nebraska, where he received his Bachelors. He then went on to receive his Masters and Educational Specialist Degree from The Citadel. He was a former Vice Principal at St. Andrews High School. Gayle served in the United States Air Force for four years. He retired from Naval Sea Systems Command, where he was a Computer Specialist. Gayle loved gardening, reading, and woodworking; he was a Renaissance Man. But, Gayle lived for his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was survived by his wife, Ann; three children, Gina Gayle Schoen of Summerville, SC, Gayle Eldean Schoen, Jr. (Tammy) of Coral Springs, FL, and Julie Schoen Legg (Paul) of Summerville, SC; five grandchildren, Gayle Eldean Schoen III, Hunter Cooper Schoen, Sydney DeeAnn Schoen, Luke Schoen Legg, and Landry Cullen Legg; seven brothers and sisters, Dixie Jones, Gary Schoen, Arlene McCarty, Danny Schoen, Kenny Schoen, Sherrilyn Howland, and Geraldine Kozak.
Funeral services were Thursday, April 17, 2014, in James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Burial followed in Dorchester Memory Gardens.
