Robin Bye, age 56 of Grand Haven passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 surrounded by his family. Robin was born December 17, 1957 to Earl and Jacqueline (Holmes) Bye in Roger City, MI. Robin received his Bachelor of Science in Education at Central Michigan University where he met his future wife Kathy. He earned his master's degree at Western Michigan University. Robin and Kathy were married in Grand Rapids, MI. In 1980, Robin began his 34 year career with Grand Haven Area Public Schools. Robin worked as an elementary and middle school art teacher and most recently as the Director of Athletics. Robin had a profound influence on the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing him, whether it was a student in the classroom, an athlete, a colleague or one of the many friends in the community. Robin was instrumental in the development of the in-line hockey league, the artist of the mural adorning the field house, and spear-heading the initiative for GHAPS to be recognized by the state of Michigan as an Exemplary Athletic Program. He taught Driver's Education and coached J.V. and Varsity Girls' basketball, and was involved in a variety of his children's sporting activities. When Robin wasn't pacing the sidelines of a sporting event he was busy producing a variety of art work in his studio or traveling throughout Michigan working the art shows. He enjoyed spending summers with his family at their cabin in Sault Ste. Marie. Robin was not only a humble man but also a loving husband, and a devoted father whose life was characterized by his kindness and generosity to his family and his friends. He will be deeply missed. Robin is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathy; son, Erik Bye of Grand Haven; daughter, Alicia Bye of Grand Haven; mother, Jacqueline Bye of Alpena; mother-in-law, Mary A. Savara of Grand Rapids; brothers, Steven (Nancy) Bye of Arizona, Randy (Gail) Bye of Frankenmuth; sister, Candy (Jeff) Powers of Hillman; brothers-in-law, Steve (Kathy) Savara of Rockford, Scott Savara of Spring Lake; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
