She was the daughter of William M. Douglas and Harriet E. Potter Douglas. On January 2, 1916 as Mary Elizabeth Douglas, she married Arthur Morris Edwards at Nevada County, California. He was the son of Lindley N. Edwards and Laura Sawyer Edwards. They were the parents of Arthur Douglas Edwards (1917-1994).
