Mrs. Gross was born Jan. 12, 1912, in Farrell, Pa., and was a daughter of Morris and Esther Berkovitz*. She moved to Detroit as a young adult, moved to California in her later years and came to the Youngstown area in 2000.

Mrs. Gross, along with her husband, Leonard, owned and operated Brightmoor Retail Variety Store in Detroit for many years. *Her maiden name is "Berkovitz" not the "Berkowitz" that was in the obituary. Her father was very adamant about the spelling. His brothers used the "Berkowitz" spelling but Morris stayed with the "vitz" ending. Per Find A Grave contributor Genealogy Liz
