CHILTONVILLE NEWS
On Tuesday, April twenty-second, Mr. and
Mrs. Edward R. Manter of Manter's Point
observed the fiftieth anniversary of
their marriage. Surrounded by a wealth
of beautiful flowers, artistically ar-
ranged, and assisted by their two dau-
ghters, they received the congratulations
of their many friends during the after-
noon and evening. Both were born and
have lived their lives of usefulness in
Chiltonville, Mr. Manter being born in
the Manter homestead at the Point, a son
of David and Betsey (Finney) Manter, and
it was his foresight and supervision
which developed the Point into the fine
summer colony which it now is. Mrs.
Manter's parents were Capt. and Mrs. Eben
Nickerson. She spent her early life at
the home on River stree, but after her mar-
riage has made her home in the "Cliff"
neighborhood.
There were three children who came to bless
their home, two daughters who are Mrs.
Anna R. Clark of South Weymouth, and Mrs.
Grace I. Snow, and a son who died when very
young. There are two grandsons, Irving and
Frederick Clark, of South Weymouth. Mr. and
Mrs. Manter were married by Rev. Henry Allen,
pastor of the Methodist Memorial church at
that time, but have always been regular atten-
dants of the Chiltonville Congregational
church where their council and aid is greatly
valued, and the members of the church are
glad to extend, to this worthy couple, their
best of wishes on this golden anniversary.
