John Nevers, 76, widely known as a chef in Northern Wisconsin and western Upper Michigan, died unexpectedly Thursday in his home at Glidden where he had lived since retirement in 1954. Mr. Nevers had been a chef at the Curry Hotel, Ironwood; the Kings Gateway, Land o' Lakes, and at the Knight Hotel, Ashland. He is survived by his wife, Minnie; a son, John Jr., high school athletic director at Oshkosh; a brother, Ernest, and a sister, Edith, both of California, and three grandchildren. The brother, a charter member of professional football's Hall of Fame, began his outstanding sports career in Superior and later played with the Duluth Eskimos of the National Football League. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Bruns Funeral Home, Glidden.
