Catherine Payne Sisam was born on Oct. 11, 1824 at Ridgeway Worcestershire, England to Richard Payne and Ann Payne. Catherine was the third child of five. Catherine was seven (7) years old when her father died in 1831. Catherine's mother married Thomas Jeffs. Catherine's sister Eliza married a Joseph Locke. He was an LDS missionary and baptied both Eliza and Catherine in 1851. Her mother and father were first cousins. Catherine met a young man named Joseph Sisam. Catherine Payne married Joseph Sisam July 30, 1843 at Alcester, Worcestershire, England. Both Catherine and Joseph lived in a small home in the village of Inkeberrow. Inkberrow is a hilly Parish. The five children of Catherine Payne and Joseph Sisam included;

Catherine was and excellent mother and homemaker. Catherine worked in a glove mill. Catherine taught her children housekeeping, weaving and making gloves. Catherine, Joseph and their children Emma and Joseph Henry set sail from Liverpool, England on Jun 4, 1868 on the packet ship "John Bright", Captain James MaGaw. Joseph sold his farm so they could purchase ticket # 149 for $700.00 dollars. Joseph also had $1,100.00 in a draft. There were 743 people on the "John Bright". There were rough waters and many were sea sick. The John Bright arrived in New York on July 13, 1868. Catherine and Family took a train and arrived at Benton, Wyoming on July 23, 1868. From there they traveled with the John Gillespie Wagon Company on August 24, 1868. The 500 member wagon train was followed by indians, but nothing happened.
Catherine Payne Sisam died on Oct. 28, 1907 at Midvale, Salt Lake County, Utah. She was buried on Oct. 28, 1907 at West Jordan, Salt Lake County, Utah. It was a difficult trip to Utah and Emma, their crippled daughter had to sit up the entire way. Emma, Joseph and Family arrived in Salt Lake on September 15, 1868. Joseph, farmer used his draft money and built a home in East Jordan, now Midvale, Utah. He grew wheat on this farm. Catherine took care of her children including Emma who could not walk. Catherine, Joseph and Emma were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 1, 1878. Catherine received her Patriarchal blessing from the West Jordan Ward on July 2, 1879. Her husband Joseph Sisam died on Friday, January 13, 1899 at 4:00 p.m. of old age. His funeral was held at the Jordan Meeting House on Monday, January 16, 1899. He was buried at the West Jordan Cemetery. Catherined died on October 28, 1907 in West Jordan and was buried next to her husband in the West Jordan Cemetery.
