Wessel S Schroeter, age 94, passed away on April 7, 2014.
He was born on August 30, 1919, in Runge, Texas to the late Alfred Berthold Schroeter, publisher of Karnes County News, and Martha Hermine Wessels.
Wessel (Wes) graduated from Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, receiving his education degree; was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, U.S. Army/Air Corp. He remained active in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1955. In 1985, Wes retired from Kelly AFB from the Directorate of Management in the aircraft fuel system support area.
As a life-long member of the Lutheran church, Wes and his wife, Agnes Schroeter, were founding members of Good News Lutheran Church. He was a proud and active member of the Masonic Brahan Lodge No. 226 AF & AM in La Vernia for 32 years as well as an endowed, 32° KCCH member of the A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, SJ, USA.
Wessel volunteered for the ECISD HS Band Boosters, NIOSA, Kelly Rod & Gun Club, and Pecan Valley Heights HOA.
He and Agnes enjoyed traveling in their RV, gardening, and family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald; sisters, Vera Heinrich, Iris Schreier, and Melba Lee Cornish; and first wife, Emma Louise Pieper.
Wessel was survived by his beloved and loving "wifey" of 39 years, Agnes Schroeter; his children, Ann Elaine (Schroeter) Pieniazek, and Jeffrey Wessel Schroeter and wife Emily; his step-children, Ernest Hugh Bartlett and wife Norma, Michael Keith Bartlett and wife Raquel, Wyatt Nathan Bartlett, and Dr. Lydia Irene Bartlett; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; other family members; and a host of friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to: the members of Good News Lutheran Church; Reverend Kelly Tankersley; the nursing staff at Mission Trails Hospital (3rd floor); the entire staff at Buena Vida Nursing & Rehabilitation Center; Wessel's hospice team from Cima Hospice; and tremendous gratitude to his hospice nurse, Merry Dixon, R.N. of Cima Hospice.
Visitation will be held at Mission Park South on April 14, 2014, at 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Please join the family for a light lunch prior to the service, Tuesday, April 15, 2014, 11:00 AM at Good News Lutheran Church.
