Joseph Ribble was born in 1781 to Adam Ribble either in Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Maryland. Agnes or Catherine Stahl is not his mother. They moved to Shelby County, Kentucky. There Joseph married Catherine Phillips on January 28, 1800. From Kentucky they moved to Washington County, Indiana,

Catherine and Joseph had nine children: Nancy, Adam, Margaret, John, Sarah, Barbara, Susan, Jeremiah, and Catherine.

Joseph and his son, John Ribble decided to move to Clarksville, Red River County, Texas. After a few years, they moved to Honey Grove in Fannin County. Sometime died between 1846 and 1850, Joseph's wife, Catherine died. The date is unknown and her headstone is either missing or she never had one. It is thought that the pile of rocks next to Joseph's grave is where she is buried.

Soon thereafter, they decided to move close to the Brazos River Indian Reservation and Fort Belknap. John built a log cabin on Rock Creek. John went back to Honey Grove to get Joseph. The plan was for Joseph to move to Rock Creek. John found Joseph ill with typhoid fever. John contracted it. Joseph died on August 7, 1856 and John died on August 25, 1856. They are buried next to each other in the Vineyard Grove Cemetery in Honey Grove. The name on their headstones is spelled Rible.
