James was born January 24th, 1922, in Eagle Lake, Texas. His father, James F. Pickett and step-father, Archie Kinser and Erva Crawford raised Jim in Sherwood, Texas, where he attended public schools. Jim was a member of the United States Navy and provided service as a motor machinist until 1945. After his separation he met, and married Neva Louise Smith on December 17th, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas.
As a young man after marring Louise, he enjoyed being a cowboy for several ranches in the Concho Valley. Mr. Pickett was a retired water well driller based in Odessa, Texas, since the 1950's, retiring in 1987 and was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 4372.
Mr. Pickett is survived by his sons, Jimmy Pickett and wife, Cathy, from Mission Viejo, California, Roy Pickett and wife, Candy, from Odessa, Texas, C.V. Pickett and wife, Marguerite, from San Angelo, Texas, and Roland Pickett and wife, Anjie, from Canyon Lake, Texas; his brother, Buddy Kinser of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Toy Henry and husband, Darin, Tami Heacock and husband, David, Kimberly Boykin and husband, Matthew, Coy Pickett and wife, Jennifer, Justin Pickett, Shereen Burns, Jason Pickett, James Pickett, Meagan Pickett and Hollye Pickett; great-grandchildren, Cara, Nick, Zack, Blaise, Caden and Riley.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 1st, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 2nd, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by V.F.W. No. 4372.
